Newcastle United managing director Derek Llambias has detailed the reasons why the club did not sign a new striker before the transfer window closed. He admitted, ‘We have a very clear transfer policy. We will not make knee-jerk decisions at the last minute which are not in the best interests of the club’. Many fans expressed their frustrations at the lack of reinvestment in the club in the striking position with Demba Ba their only addition up-front.
But Llambias admitted, ‘We understand that supporters will feel frustrated that we did not sign another striker during the window, but it was not for lack of trying that we did not bring our final target in’. Newcastle had a £12 million bid accepted for Costa Rica international Bryan Ruiz by FC Twente but failed to agree personal terms and the player joined Fulham.
